Acceptable Use Policy

- Effective
Palloo is a place to hang out with your friends and communities, and we want it to feel safe and welcoming for everyone. This policy explains what's not allowed and what happens when someone breaks the rules. It's part of our Terms of Service.
1. Who this applies to
These rules apply to everyone using the hosted Palloo service at palloo.app and app.palloo.app, including bots, webhooks and the people who create them. They cover everything on Palloo: messages in servers and DMs, files, profiles, server names and icons, and listings in the public server directory.
Server owners and moderators can set stricter rules for their own servers, but never looser ones.
2. What's not allowed
- Child sexual abuse material and child exploitation. We have zero tolerance for this. Never post, share or request sexual content involving minors, and never sexualize, groom or solicit a minor. We suspend accounts immediately and report this material to the authorities.
- Harassment and threats. Don't target people with abuse, threaten violence, share someone's private information to harm or expose them (doxxing), or encourage anyone to hurt themselves.
- Hate. Don't attack or demean people because of who they are, such as their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity or sexual orientation.
- Spam and platform manipulation. Don't send unsolicited bulk messages, fake engagement, manipulate invites or the server directory, or create accounts in bulk.
- Malware and security abuse. Don't share malware, run phishing or steal credentials, attack Palloo or the people on it, or probe Palloo for security weaknesses.
- Illegal content and activity. Don't use Palloo to share illegal content or to buy, sell or promote anything illegal.
- Non-consensual intimate imagery. Never share intimate or sexual images of someone without their consent, or threaten to.
- Impersonation. Don't pretend to be another person, an organization, Palloo staff or a verified organization, and don't use domain handles or badges to mislead people.
- Abusing bots, webhooks and slash commands. Don't use automation to spam, scrape, get around limits, or act on people without their consent, and don't share webhook tokens.
- Evading enforcement. Don't create new accounts or servers to get around a ban, timeout or suspension.
- Infringing other people's rights. Only post content you have the right to share, and respect other people's copyrights and trademarks.
3. What happens when someone breaks the rules
What we do depends on how serious the problem is and whether it has happened before. Here are the tools we and server moderators have:
- In a server, owners and moderators can delete messages, quarantine attachments, time out members for up to 28 days, kick members and ban them. These actions are recorded in the server's moderation log.
- Across Palloo, our team can remove content, quarantine files, suspend accounts, remove servers from the public server directory, and act on reports from any server.
- For child safety, a match against known child sexual abuse material leads to immediate suspension and a report to the authorities.
Once Palloo instances can connect with each other (federation, which isn't available yet), we'll also be able to limit or block other instances that break these rules.
4. Reporting
If you see something that breaks these rules, please report it. You can report messages, members and server directory listings right in the app, and choose a category: spam, harassment, hate, impersonation, threats, self-harm, child safety, illegal content or something else.
We look at the most serious reports first. Our goals are:
- Child safety, threats and self-harm: acknowledged within 1 hour and resolved within 24 hours.
- Illegal content: acknowledged within 24 hours and resolved within 3 days.
- Everything else: acknowledged within 3 days and resolved within 14 days.
When you file a report, Palloo keeps a private copy of what you reported, so moderators can still see it if it's edited or deleted. Our Privacy Policy explains what's kept and for how long.
If you think someone is in immediate danger, please contact your local emergency services first.
5. Appeals
If you think we made a mistake, we want to hear about it. An appeal process will be described here before Palloo opens to everyone.
6. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Palloo grows. We'll publish each new version here with a new version identifier and effective date.
